Southern California Edison announced this morning that they would close the
San Onofre Nuclear Generating Plant permanently and would cease efforts to
restart the system immediately. According the LA Times this morning, SCE
cites the problems with the steam tubes and the difficulty in solving them
and the expense as the reason. SCE says the 19 month shutdown of the system
has cost them over $400 million dollars and further actions will cost even
more.
