WEST LIBERTY - A pump malfunction overnight led to a wastewater discharge Thursday morning in West Liberty in Muscatine County.
The West Liberty wastewater treatment plant discharged partially treated wastewater from 6:30 to 9:15 Thursday morning. The city discharged about 23,000 gallons to Wapsinonoc Creek before it completed repairs on the pump.
Normally a second pump would provide backup, but it had been taken out for upgrades as part as an overall effort to make improvements to the treatment plant.
