Re: Story County workshop on future development alternatives

The Story County Planning and Zoning Department will hold a day-long
design workshop to put together the "preferred future" for development in
rural Story County. The public is invited to attend all or part of the
workshop, which runs from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, December
6th at Christie Hall, 220 H Avenue in Nevada.

The workshop is a major step in the ongoing update of the Story County
Development Plan. The updated plan will guide residential, commercial
and industrial development for many years into the future. Participants
at the workshop will be introduced to the planning process, review three
unique alternatives and work cooperatively to produce a preferred
alternative for future development. Major issues to be discussed are
transportation, natural resources, farmland preservation and general land
use. The three alternative development models are (1) City-Town Center
Approach, (2) Growth Corridor Approach, and (3) Existing Trends Approach.

Following the day-long workshop, there will be an open house from 6:00 to
8:00 p.m. also at Christie Hall. Story County residents are invited to
come for as much of the day as possible. If you would like to attend,
please call (515) 382-7245. For more information, consult
www.storycounty.com.
