We have only until March 6 to keep Arctic Drilling out of the Budge Bill.
Congressman Jim Nussle, IA, Budget Chair, is the key. The budget bill
cannot be filibustered.
Jim Nussle, Budget Bill Chair, plays a critical role in determining
whether or not Arctic drilling is included in the congressional budget.
He provided a huge loophole that allowed drilling in the Budget Bill. He
is running for Governor of Iowa and all Iowans have an opportunity to ask
him to not allow Arctic drilling in the congressional budget bill. He
can be contacted at: Waterloo 319-235-1109; Manchester 800-927-5212 or
563-326-1841; DC 202-225-2911 or e-mail site www.nussle.house.gov & send
an e-mail from website under "Contact Jim."
Letters to editors are needed to demonstrate to media that Iowans don't
want Arctic Drilling in the Budget Bill & volumes of letters will
demonstrate to media that this is important to a majority of Iowans.
Some talking points for letters:
*Jim Nussle, Budget Chairman said he would keep Arctic Drilling out of
the Budget Bill but allowed loophole to include drilling. He needs to
listen to the majority of Iowans who don't think Arctic drilling belongs
in a budget bill.
*Including Arctic in the Budget bill is a misguided policy being pushed
by special interest oil corporations.
OIL DRILLING LEASES ON THE NORTH SLOPE ARE $50 AN ACRE
TAXPAYERS PAY FOR MOST OF THE INFRASTRUCTURE
* NONE OF THE ESTIMATED ARCTIC DRILLING REVENUE MAKE SENSE--DO THE MATH
* To include bogus Arctic Refuge drilling revenue in the budget bill is
unethical.
