The Iowa Chapter ExCom will be meeting at 11 AM on Sunday, June 2 at the home
of David and Lin Zahrt in NW Iowa.  All Sierra Club members are invited to
attend.  Directions from several different direrctions are pasted below.


175 W


On State Hwy 175W

proceed west through Mapleton and Castana.
At the stop sign (one mile east of Turin) Hwy 175 is joined by 37.  Turn
right and continue on 175W into Turin.
At the intersection of Larpenteur Rd and 175--(only crossroads in Turin--it's
paved) turn right (north)
Go one mile to Country Homestead B&B
(3rd house on the right, big sign in the front yard yard next to the road)

HWY 30 W


From Ames

take US Hwy 30 W to Denison.
At the west edge of Denison 30 and 141 join.
Take 141 W (turn right).  Follow 141 to the top of the hill where it makes a
sharp turn to the left (west) and goes through the hills to Charter Oak and
Ute.  In Ute 183 meets 141.  Turn left (SW) on 183 and go to Soldier.
In Soldier 37 crosses 183.  Turn right (west) on 37 and go 11 mile to Turin.
The last mile into Turin is St Hwy 175.


In Turin (pop 75) turn right (north) on Larpenteur Memorial Road (the only
concrete crossroads in Turin).
There is a one-story brick building on the NW corner of that intersection.
If you go past a grape colored marquis with the name "Sisters" on it (right
side of highway) you have just gone past the intersection.
Go one mile north on Larpenteur Memorial Road along the west edge of the
Loess Hills.
Country Homestead is one mile north of Turin, the third visible house (fourth
mailbox) on the right.  There is a large sign in the front yard.

141-W


OPTIONAL --141 West which would be more scenic.  When I set the cruise
control at 60 mph I can make it in the same amount of time from Des Moines on
either I-80 or 141


From Exit 102 on I-35
take Hwy 210 W through Slater, Madrid, and Woodward to Hwy 141.
Go west on 141 to US Hwy 59.
Turn right (north) on 59 and go 1 mile to County Rd E 59.
At E 59 turn left (west) and go to Dow City.
In Dow City you join US Hwy 30.  Turn left (s.west) and go to Dunlap.  At the
outskirts of Dunlap you will find St Hwy 37.
Turn right (west) on 37 and go to Turin.
The last mile into Turin is St Hwy 175.

GOING WEST from Des Moines on  I-80,



exit at Exit #  40 (Harlan/Avoca).
Go north on US Hwy 59 through Harlan.
Approximately 9 miles north of Harlan St turn left (west) on St Hwy 37 (37
East dead ends at 59 so there is only one way to turn on 37.  There are night
lights at that intersection).
Continue west on St Hwy 37 through Earling, Dunlap, and Soldier to Turin.
