Meet ISU's New Biotechnology Industrial Liaison --- Lisa Lorenzen Dahl

Lisa Lorenzen Dahl is Iowa State University's new Biotechnology Industrial
Liaison. She will help industries utilize ISU's research, business, and
educational resources and will collaborate with economic development
organizations to foster business development in Iowa.

Lorenzen earned a Ph.D. in genetics at ISU and was employed for five years
as a computational biologist by Pioneer Hi-Bred International, Inc., in
Johnston, Iowa. Her responsibilities for Pioneer included technology
scouting, managing computational aspects of the company's genomics
technology partners, and identifying and implementing data analysis and
presentation tools. Known for her expertise in computational biology,
Lorenzen has given numerous presentations about genomic tools and resources
at scientific and commodity group events throughout the United States.

During her graduate school years at ISU, Lorenzen worked with Dr. Randy
Shoemaker, Agronomy/USDA-ARS, on research projects exploring alternate
methods of analyzing soybean cultivars with RFLP's. She designed and
implemented a soybean genome database for a U.S. Department of Agriculture
project at ISU and coordinated the establishment of genome databases for
other plant species. She also taught introductory biology laboratory courses
for undergraduates. She has served on the governing board of the Iowa Math
and Science Coalition since 1997.

"I am very pleased to welcome Dr. Lorenzen Dahl back to Iowa State
University," said Patricia B. Swan, Vice Provost for Research and Advanced
Studies and administrator of ISU's biotechnology program. "Starting with the
strong academic foundation she obtained here, Lisa has built a highly
successful career in industry. I am confident that ISU's biotechnology
program and the state's biotechnology industries will benefit from her
expertise."

Lorenzen began her employment at ISU on March 1. She may be contacted at the
Office of Biotechnology, 1210 Molecular Biology Building, ISU, Ames, Iowa
