May 18th program, Central Iowa Sierra Club
Ray and Margaret Harden will show their slides of the Amazon River Cruise
they took in January of 2005. The cruise began in Iquitos, Peru, and from
there they traveled 250 miles up stream experiencing the ecosystems of the
little-seen Amazon headwaters on foot, in motor launches and in skiffs. They
hiked in the Pacakya - Samiria Reserve, Peru's largest natural park and
walked in suspended walkways through the canopy. Their pictures will show
the Hoatzin bird and giant water lillies. They visited several small
villages. This was the Harden's eighth trip to the rainforest of Central and
South America.
Monthly programs begin at 7:30 p.m. at Grace United Methodist Church,
located at 37th and Cottage Grove. Parking is located behind the
church--enter through the south double doors and the meeting is in the lower
east level of the church. Call 515-223-5047 or e-mail me at
