Earth Week 1999
Be involved this Earth Day season with our great lecture series!
"Rising Up" - Working to Protect the World's Last Great Temperate Rain forest.
Dave Danstrom, Activist and "Rising Up!" Organizer.
As many of us know him, Sky has been a frequent visitor to Iowa City. This
visit he has some new news about how we can help save the destruction of
one of the wildest places on earth -- The Great Bear Rainforest. He'll help
link the destruction in British Columbia to things we can do as citizens,
and activists, to help stop it. Beautiful slides and video.
Monday, April 19th, 7:00pm in room 346 of the Iowa Memorial Union.
"The Dangers of Frankenfoods-What the Biotech Industry Has Done to Your Corn
Chips, French Fries, Soda, Bread, etc."
Jeffrey Smith, Former U.S. Senate Candidate for the Natural Law Party.
Smith makes a convincing case that we should be leery when we hear the
phrase "ADM... Supermarket To The World." Smith presents convincing facts
and plans on how we can retain our right to know what's in our food!
Tuesday, April 20th, 7:30pm in room 256 of the Iowa Memorial Union.
"Iowa Public Policy & Global Climate Change"
David Osterberg, Iowa DNR Consultant and former UI Prof and Iowa State
Legislator.
Osterberg has decades of experience in environmental policy in Iowa. Among
other things, he played a key role in a number of policy initiatives in the
legislature, including the implementation of a statewide groundwater
monitoring system. An excellent speaker worth paying for (of course, it's
FREE).
Wednesday, April 21st, 7:30pm in room 166 of the Iowa Memorial Union.
Earth Day Gathering - UI Environmental Coalition
UIEC will hold a drum circle and petition drive in front of the Old Capitol
on the UI Pentacrest.
Thursday, April 22nd, 12:00pm - 6:00pm
