Sorry I will be out of state the week of the TMDL meetings, but would you
please bring up the points that neither hog estrogen nor pesticides are
being addressed by the TMDL standards?  For many states this would not be
an important issue, but in IA it should be.  There is some research already
done indicating that the sex ratio of some aquatic species may be affected
by excessive estrogen levels from hog urine in our waterways.  Also, the
biological activity of our newer pesticides is higher, so farmers can use
lower doses to do the same job.  Therefore the amount of these pesticides
will be lower in our waterways, but how does that interpret in terms of
"activity"?  The TMDL's proposed by the government are "generic" at best.
