DES MOINES - The following cities bypassed after heavy rainfall in northeast
Iowa Tuesday night.
Clayton County:
Marquette: After receiving more than nine inches of rain in the area, the
Marquette Wastewater Treatment Plant is bypassing partially-treated and
untreated wastewater diluted with storm water. The bypass began at 4 a.m.
Wednesday and is continuing to discharge to the Mississippi River.
Dubuque County:
Asbury: The City of Asbury began bypassing untreated wastewater to Cloie
Branch
Creek after excess rain overwhelmed the lift station Wednesday morning.
Asbury,
a suburb of Dubuque, bypassed from its Forest Hills lift station from 7:30
to
8:45 a.m. An estimated 5,000 to 10,000 gallons of diluted wastewater
discharged
to the creek, which flows to the Little Maquoketa River. City officials were
contacting downstream land owners of the discharge.
Dubuque: The City of Dubuque began pumping untreated wastewater from two
locations Wednesday after more than seven inches of rain fell in the area.
In an
effort to prevent sewer backups in residential basements, the city began
discharging from a sanitary sewer to the North Fork Catfish Creek near the
Key
Way Drive area at 1:30 a.m. Wednesday. The city also began bypassing from
the
West Locust Rosedale sewer, which flows to the Mississippi River. As of
Wednesday afternoon, the bypass is ongoing.
