> Jane Clark asked about the steps involved in the public review process.
>
> Following the deadline for written public comments on January 8, Daryl
> Howell and I will review all of the comments (both written and those
> presented verbally on November 24). This review may result in changes
> to the original proposal. A final proposal will be prepared and taken
> to the Natural Resource Commission. If approved there, it will be
> forwarded to the Administrative Rules Review Committee for final
> approval.
>
> The Natural Resource Commission does not meet in January. Therefore,
> the earliest that the final proposal could be presented to them would be
> during the February 1999 meeting (tentatively scheduled for February 11
> in Des Moines). If approved there, the final proposal would proceed to
> the Rules Review Committee; no date has been set, but it would probably
> be in late February or March.
>
> One possible variation is that we may not be able to process all of the
> comments received and make adjustments to the original proposal between
> January 8 and January 29, the latter date being the approximate deadline
> to submit items for consideration on the Natural Resource Commission
> agenda. If so, presentation of the final proposal to the Natural
> Resource Commission would be postponed until their March meeting
> (tentatively scheduled for March 11 in Des Moines). This would cause a
> corresponding postponement of the Rules Review Committee meeting until
> late March or April.
>
> I will post the dates for these meetings on this server as soon as I
> learn of them, but as an independent check, you can watch for the
> announcements through the monthly agenda of the Natural Resource
> Commission (available from Karen Stone of the DNR Director's Office,
> 515/281-8650) and through the Iowa Administrative Bulletin, a biweekly
> state government periodical.
>
> I hope this is useful.
