As one small note re the GMO bill -- it's my understanding that forage
grasses are included in the legislation. The development of a herbicide-resistant
Agrostis species is already underway in the U.S., in spite of concerns that
its pollen could potentially contaminate related grass species and that the
Agrostis species being modified was already behaving as an invasive exotic in
part of one state. The future might bring GMOs with the potential to further
complicate natural area management in Iowa, where invasive exotic plants are
already a huge problem.
