Washington, D.C. - With Big Oil doing everything they can to try to buy back Congress, today the Sierra Club launched three new television ads in key congressional races - Michigan's 7th District, Arizona's 8th District, and Florida's 22nd District. The Sierra Club is spending over $800,000 on the total buy.

All three ads focus on various effects of our oil addiction and the potential benefits of breaking free from oil. In MI-07, the Sierra Club is focusing on former Congressman Tim Walberg's record of favoring oil over clean energy. In AZ-08, the ad tells the story of Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords' efforts to keep troops safe by reducing oil dependence. And in FL-22, the Sierra Club is contrasting the pro-drilling stance of candidate Allen West with Congressman Ron Klein's record of protecting Florida's beaches and promoting clean energy.

"We want voters in each of these districts to know which candidates will fight for what's best for their constituents and communities and who will side with the interests of Big Oil and their lobbyists," said Cathy Duvall, Sierra Club's Political Director. "Voters have a choice on Election Day to vote for candidates who will side with corporate polluters like BP, or who are working to create more jobs and security by building a clean energy economy."

Michigan's 7th District: Narrator: "Enbridge oil spills spews 800,000 gallons into the Kalamazoo River - threatening Lake Michigan. But Tim Walberg supports oil drilling in the great lakes - which could mean a BP disaster right here. Walberg even voted for tax breaks for oil companies. And against incentives for clean renewable energy - costing Michigan jobs. No wonder the oil industry gave Walberg 57 thousand dollars in campaign contributions. Tim Walberg - is wrong for Michigan."

Arizona's 8th District: Narrator: "Our country's addiction to oil make us less secure, but for soldiers transporting fuel in combat zones, it's a matter of life and death. Nobody knows that better than Gabrielle Giffords. Married to an active duty service member, Giffords is committed to keeping troops safe. That's why she's pushing to reduce the need for dangerous fuel convoys by expanding the military's use of renewable energy. Now, that's smart leadership. And that's Gabrielle Giffords."

Florida's 22nd District: Narrator: "For five months BP spewed oil into the gulf - polluting Florida beaches and devastating our economy But Allen West still supports drilling for oil off the Florida coast. And West says he "sees nothing about the situation in the Gulf that will change his mind" No wonder West received thousands in contributions from oil companies. Ron Klein has a better way - protect our beaches and develop alternative energy to reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Ron Klein for Congress."
