Yes, Pam, it will be hard to figure out how many Republicans switched
over because of real dissatisfaction and how many switched because they
were heading off the anti-war movement at the pass. At my precinct, I
estimated that half the switchovers or about 5% of Kerry's strength came
from Republicans who opposed the anti-war stance of Howard Dean.

Unfortunately the press has not covered this aspect of the caucuses,
indeed one report said that the caucuses did not allow switches from one
party to the other.

At our caucus, several people who were Republican said they switched to
Democrat because they liked Dean. A few were medical doctors, one was
an architect.

Also we had a former state legislator who was a Republican at our
caucus. He stated that Bush's Republican Party does not represent him.

I think Republicans just wanted to cast a bad light on Howard
Dean and succeeded-good luck getting them to the polls.
