Iowa Sierrans,
As Iowa Chapter delegate to the May 13-16 meeting of the Council of Club
Leaders, I wanted you to know of a resolution I am presenting to that
entity which I hope is passed onto the Board of Directors for action.
The resolution emerges from the work of the Missouri River Basin
Association of Chapters (MORBAC--a Ken Midkiff acronym). Deb Neustadt
and I attended that meeting April 3 in Omaha. We are responding to the
Army Corps decision last month to give the defunct barge industry
priority over endangered species, especially the pallid sturgeon-a
species on the edge of extinction.
The Missouri River taskforce also joined with the Lewis and Clark
bicentennial campaign to create this resolution that addresses the
natural legacy threatened from Missouri to the Pacific.
Next week I will share with the listserv participants other issues and
resolutions being considered by the Council.
Jim
