I should have been more precise in my message about my thoughts on whether
the Iowa Topics listserv was the most appropriate place to discuss
presidential candidates.

I agree that debate is needed.

But the Iowa Topics list was not set up specifically for that purpose, so I
think a separate discussion listserv should be set up for people who want to
debate candidates' environmental records.  Ground rules could be stated, so
that real debate, and not campaign advertising, occurred.

I did not mean to imply that debate was unnecessary and I was not trying to
stifle discussion.  I just think it needs to happen in a setting that is
specifically set up for that purpose.
