I lived near the MO river in Sioux city - recall the interest there was
in removing the dams but do think it a possibility - the river is deeply
channeled and very dangerous - not a safe or pleasant water way - The
Corp did not turn the Miss. R into a raging channel - corn and beans are
not being shipped via the river in the quantities of the past. Maybe
there will soon be the day when it use will be very limited. There is an
effort to enlarge all the locks on the river. I am not optimistic about
that solving the problem for the barges will only become larger and we
will be back where we were.
