For those of you who have followed the story of Bob Jackson, the Yellowstone
back-country park ranger who lives in Iowa during the winter, I am
forwarding this article from today's GREENLines. Debbie Neustadt posted a
recent newspaper article about Sen. Grassley's comments about this
"whistleblower".

KILLINGS THREATEN GRIZZLY RECOVERY: The recent illegal killing of a
female grizzly and her cub just outside of Yellowstone N.P. has
conservationists questioning whether the great bear's recovery and
delisting is possible "if this sort of activity continues" says the
Billings Gazette, AP 10/25. The deaths were particularly tragic given
that the sow and her cub were "probably one of the first bears" to try
and establish a range west of Yellowstone in Idaho's Centennial
Mountain Range where road closures had restored wilderness and wildlife
corridorst allowing them to occupy "good bear habitat that had been
unused for a long time." The Sierra Club reports "16 Yellowstone area
grizzlies have been killed this year."
