Pesticides & Water Quality Seminar
Wallace State Office Building Auditorium
Des Moines, IA
9:30 AM - 12:00 PM
April 23, 2003

The Pesticide Bureau of the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land
Stewardship is hosting the Pesticides & Water Quality Seminar.  Presentations
will be made by Dr. Mary Skopec, Iowa Department of Natural Resources / Iowa
Geological Survey on a project that investigated selected pesticides and
compared sales data and water quality and a project by Rich Pope, Iowa State
University Extension, which compared selected pesticides by sales data to
cropping patterns.

Discussions will relate to atrazine, isoxaflutole, and other selected
herbicides that have been identified in surface and ground water monitoring
activities.  Both investigators have used Geographic Information System
applications to illustrate the relationships between the selected active
ingredients and pesticide residues in water or cropping patterns.

The investigation projects and this seminar have been funded through a
matching grant with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Region VII and
the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.  There is no
registration fee to attend this seminar.

The Wallace State Office Building Auditorium has a capacity of 283.  Please
feel free to invite a colleague who may have an interest in the seminar.  If
you have questions, please contact me.
