VILLISCA DISCHARGING WASTEWATER FROM PUMPING STATION
MEDIA CONTACT: Holly Vandemark at (712) 243-1934.
VILLISCA — The City of Villisca in Montgomery County was working to stop an ongoing wastewater discharge at one of its pumping stations on Tuesday.
An anonymous citizen reported the discharge to the DNR Tuesday morning. Wastewater from the Sunbest Papetti Farms egg facility, located about one mile west of town, enters the city sewer system via the city-run pumping station.
Villisca’s wastewater operator reported that the discharge has been an ongoing problem but is unable to determine how much wastewater has been released or if any has reached the Nodaway River. The city anticipates it will repair the problem Tuesday or Wednesday.
The DNR has requested the city collect water samples and provide a schedule for long-term repairs to the city’s sewer system.
