*****Urge the White House to veto anti-environmental "riders!"*****
**Pass the message on to 5 other people**

Right now, we're facing serious environmental and public health problems like
water pollution, air pollution, global warming, destruction of public land,
and many more. You would think that with problems like these, government and
the private sector would seek to work together for solutions.

However, this summer, members of Congress, pressured by their friends from
industry attached many anti-environmental provisions to spending bills,
hoping they will be passed through. Out of all the provisions to date, one of
the most egregious would freeze miles-per-gallon standards on cars and light
trucks, costing us money at the gas pump and increasing global warming
pollution. Others would remove wetlands protection, increase logging in our
national forests, and force taxpayers to clean up the waste left behind by
mining companies on public lands.

We need to protect our public health, as well as our air, water, and public
lands.
We need to send a message to decision-makers, both in Congress and the White
House, that we demand stronger, not weaker environmental protections.

We are asking folks to call the White House to urge President Clinton to
veto any spending bills that have anti-environmental provisions in them.

*****The phone number is 202-546-1414, and the message is "President Clinton
should veto any spending bill that has anti-environmental provisions.******

After you call, please email me back at Iowa PIRG. Email is [log in to unmask]
and let me know what happened. This way I can also track how many calls
we've generated. Our goal is 100 calls from Iowa.

Thanks for your help!
