Being a Player: Lobbying Rules for Nonprofits

November 8, 2002, 9:00 am - Noon
Des Moines Water Works Conference Room
2201 George Flagg Parkway (formerly Valley Drive)
Des Moines

Do you want your organization to influence public policy but worry because
you aren't sure what it is allowed to do? Next month, the Iowa Citizen
Action Network and the Alliance for Justice present Being a Player: Lobbying
Rules for Nonprofits, a workshop designed for nonprofit managers, staff,
board members, and volunteers who want to learn more about the do's and don'
ts for lobbying by nonprofit organizations.

This three-hour session will explain the federal rules that allow nonprofit
organizations to lobbying for funding or other legislative change at the
local, state, and federal level. You'll learn:

* What types of lobbying can 501(c)(3) do?
* What is the 501(h) election?
* May nonprofits use private foundation or community foundation grants to
lobby?

This session complements the Alliance's plain-language guide to these laws
Being a Player: A Guide to the IRS Lobbying Regulations for Advocacy, which
all participants will receive. (A $15 value!)

Registration for the workshop is $20. To register, fill out the form below
and mail or fax it to:

ICAN 3520 Beaver Ave., Suite D
Des Moines, IA 50310
 or 515.277.8003 by
Monday, November 4.
Space is limited, so sign up early!
