This tax day the Sierra Club is joining other national organizations to
protest the Bush administration's failure to hold corporate polluters
responsible for superfund toxic waste site cleanups: the administration did
not re-authorize superfund, and the corporate fund to pay for cleanups has
since gone broke. So any cleanups that happen now must be paid for with
taxpayer dollars. What impact does this have on Iowans?
In 1995 Iowa spent $2,157,482 on Superfund sites.
In 2004 superfund sites will cost the state $8,950,345.

Two Iowa events are taking place this month to demand corporate
accountability:

Des Moines, Thursday, April 15:
Join Sierra Club members and Granny D at 2:00pm at the main Post Office
(1165 Second Ave.) to distribute stickers reading "Make Polluters Pay to
Clean Up Toxic Waste Sites. Tax Polluters, Not American Families." for
people to put on their tax return envelopes. Granny D will be touring
through Iowa, and will speak at the Des Moines event about corporate
accountability and the Bush Administration's assaults on the environment.

Iowa City, Friday, April 30th (Iowa Tax Day):
Join Sierra Club members at noon at the main Post Office to distribute
stickers and information about how the Bush administration's abandonment of
the polluter pays principle is putting Iowa's communities at risk.
