Appeal to Iowa Sierra Club Group Leaders, in Eagle View, White Pine, Cedar
Prairie, Cedar Wapsie, Northwest, Iowa City and Leopold. We need your help!

As you are aware, the Iowa Sierra Club Environmental Voter Education
Campaign (EVEC) seeks to educate members and the public to the comparison
environmental positions of the two major party US Senate Candidates, Tom
Harkin and Greg Ganske, and the two 4th Congressional District Candidates
Tom Latham and John Norris. We have produced a very attractive, articulate
and useful voter guide.

This past weekend we had:
   - 30 volunteers going door to door in the western suburbs of Des Moines
delivering the Voter Guides to 3000 doors.
    - 3 volunteers took them to more than 600 homes in Ames. (More is
planned for Ames.)
    - all that in 2 hours average per volunteer.

Volunteers this week are taking them to:
    - 800 doors in Norwalk.
    -100 homes in Pleasant Hill.
    - and plans are in place to place them at 1500-2000 doors in Indianola,
next weekend.

We have been targeting neighborhoods that are heavily populated with young
families. The Voter Guide is specifically aimed at them emphasizing clean
water, clean air, for our families.

Now I appeal to each Group Leader to commit to taking responsibility for
placing at least
    - 500 voter guides at the doors of homes in the major city in your
Group.
    - So...that means getting 10 volunteers for one hour, or 5 for 2 hours.

At the Annual Dinner in Iowa City this weekend, I will have with me the
necessary Voter Guides and instructions for each Group to take their 500. If
you can commit to even more than 500, I will be able to accommodate that.

So this is the Request: Will you commit your Group to at least 500 Voter
Guides, to be delivered door to door in neighborhoods in your area, by the
following weekend, October 20?

Please let me know how you respond. I will be happy to provide any
assistance I can in terms of how to do this, and what works. The volunteers
this weekend were very positive in reporting their experience at doing this.
And, the exciting thing was, many of them were doing first-time volunteering
in their Sierra Club experience!

We are also targeting 10 county seat towns in the 4th Congressional District
for next weekend, with litdrops of 200-500. It will be very impressive to
make this statewide ³splash² on one weekend, if you will help make it
happen!

The web versions of the Voter Guide are at the weblinks below if you want an
idea of what they are like.

Thanks for your consideration. I do hope your Group will help.

THANKS. THANKS. THANKS!
