In Iowa, WHIP projects include the construction of
shelterbelts to
provide winter cover for pheasants,
rabbits and neotropical birds; riparian corridors to
improve trout
habitat; and restoration of native tall
and short grass prairies to benefit prairie chickens,
sharp-tailed
grouse and other bird species.
