Here is information about a speaker that we are bringing to Iowa State 
University on October 23.  

Ayla Kayal will be speaking at 12:30 p.m. and  2:00 p.m. in the Gallery of 
the Memorial Union.  She will be talking about Socially Responsible Investing.  
Her presentation will last 30 minutes and she will leave 20 minutes for 
questions.  

The following is information about her. 

Alya Z. Kayal, Esq., Senior Social Research Analyst and Coordinator for 
Global Outreach and Research. University of Minnesota Law School, JD; Rutgers - The 
State University of New Jersey, BA, Sociology and International 
Communications. 

Ms. Kayal joined the Calvert Group's Social Research on August 1, 1994 as an 
International/Human Rights Analyst. She was previously employed as a research 
assistant by the US Department of Labor's International Labor Affairs Bureau 
to work on an International Child Labor Report. She has also worked on a 
special project of the US Information Agency and the Soros Foundation on the status 
of independent media in Eastern Europe and the states of the former Soviet 
Union. Ms. Kayal has also worked as an aide to the US Member to the United 
Nations Sub-Commission on Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities 
in 1992. While there, she drafted several human rights resolutions and 
assisted in negotiations on complex political and human rights issues with 
representatives from various countries. Ms. Kayal was the co-chair of the Corporate 
Responsibility and Human Rights Sub-Committee of the International Human Rights 
Committee of the American Bar Association's international law division. She is a 
co-author of The Forty-Fourth Session of the United Nations Sub-Commission on 
Prevention of Discrimination and Protection of Minorities and the Special 
Session of the Commission on Human Rights on the Situation in the Former 
Yugoslavia, 15 Human Rights Quarterly (1993). She is also the author of the Human 
Rights chapter of the Calvert-Henderson Quality of Life Indicators. At Calvert, 
Ms. Kayal specializes in analyzing international/human rights issues for US and 
international companies.
