> Sen. Harkin's D.C. office: 202-224-3254 or 800-839-5276.
ACTIONS NEEDED:
Please get calls into Senator Harkin immediately asking him to support a
filibuster effort on the energy bill.
Please call Senator Daschle, too, using either the Capitol switchboard #
1-800-839-5276. Ask him to vote NO on this bill and sponsor a filibuster.
UPDATE ON TIMING:
The energy bill conferees approved a final conference report and sent the
legislation to the House and Senate for a final up or down vote. The House
passed H.R 6 by a vote of 246-180 yesterday.
The Senate will take up the legislation now that it has passed the House,
with a vote possible as early as today (11/19), but probably on Thursday,
11/20.
During the conference last night, the only Democrat to support the
conference report was Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-ND). The rest of the Democrats
opposed the final package.
MESSAGE:
"This destructive energy bill has been a product of backroom deals from
start to finish. It was hatched in the secret Bush/Cheney Energy Task
Force three years ago and was finalized behind closed doors in the energy
bill conference.
Instead of taking responsible steps forward, this bill threatens our
environment, puts our communities at risk, and funnels billions of dollars
to the biggest polluting industries in the country. We urge the Senate to
do everything in its power, including a filibuster if necessary, to reject
this disastrous bill.
