CAFO health issues to be aired
November 16, Des Moines
Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations have emerged as the central
environmental health concern among rural residents in Iowa. The
University of Iowa's Environmental Health Sciences Research Center
and the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences are
sponsoring a town meeting, "Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations:
Airing the Environmental Health Issues," that will offer a slate of
experts to address the scientific foundation of this topic. A panel
of rural residents and pork producers will discuss community
concerns, and there will be opportunity for audience questions and
discussion. The meeting will be held at the Hotel Fort Des Moines
7:45 a.m. - 4:45 p.m. The meeting is open to the public and is free
of charge, but all participants must pre-register by November 1. To
register, visit <http://www.public-health.uiowa.edu/townmeeting/> or
call 319/335-4422.
