Recruitment Announcement - Great Lakes (Bi-national) Committee (U.S. side)

The U.S. - Canada International Committee a direct report to the
Conservation Governance Committee (CGC) seeks to appoint five additional
members from the U.S. Sierra Club for the new Great Lakes (Bi-National)
Committee (GLC). If you would like to nominate yourself for appointment
please complete and return the application below by June 15th.

The GLC will work to protect and restore the ecosystem of the Great Lakes
Basin by promoting effective collaboration between the chapters and
national offices of the Sierra Club and Sierra Club of Canada on Great
Lakes Basin issues.

The committee will serve as a meeting place for regular updates and
coordination on legislation, projects, activities and events that affect
the Great Lakes Basin Ecosystem. It will initiate binational activities
and projects to enhance the visibility, competence and influence of Sierra
Club and Sierra Club of Canada in promoting the quality of the Great Lakes
Basin Ecosystem. It will serve as a resource to chapters and volunteers
working to protect the Great Lakes and will manage a binational Great Lakes
list-serve.

Over the next two to three years, the committee will focus on issues such
as implementation of the Great Lakes Annex/Compact to prevent diversions of
Great Lakes water, review of the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement, and
implementation of a Great Lakes restoration agenda.

Candidates for the Great Lakes (Bi-National) Committee should have at least
general knowledge of current Great Lakes issues and the motivation to work
on resolving them. Specialized expertise is welcome as is familiarity with
Sierra Club policies and processes. Candidates should have good management
and social skills, as well as political and strategic judgment. Nominees
must be current Sierra Club members.

Ability and willingness to use electronic mail and to participate in
conference calls (generally in the evening) are required as well as the
ability to travel occasionally to meetings or conferences. Candidates need
to consider their ability to contribute time and effort to GLC
participation in addition to ongoing commitments. If you are interested in
applying, please read and follow the instructions completely. We are only
accepting self-nominations, so, please, pass this announcement on to others
you think may have an interest.

The Search team for the GLC formation (U.S. side) will be reviewing the
applications, doing phone interviews with prospective candidates and will
be making recommendations for final appointments to be made by the U.S. -
Canada International Committee. The U.S.-Canada International Committee
coordinates Sierra Club participation as a single entity in international
fora and organizations as well as coordinates a single bi-national Club
signature or representation in any communication directed to a bi-national
or international organization, or deals with an issue that is not solely
the concern of Sierra Club (U.S.) or Sierra Club of Canada.

After deleting the rest of this announcement, please email the application
below by June 15th to Jan O'Connell @ [log in to unmask] ph
616-956-6646 & Christine Elwell @ [log in to unmask] ph
