When I met in DC with other folks from the Quad Cities on housing and fair
lending issues with Nussle's staff last week (while the budget resolution was
being debated) he got very defensive when I told him that we were watching
Nussle's actions closely. I told him that while we were from his district we would
be informing others in the state of his actions as a leader of the party. We
are often given the excuse from staff that he represents the best interests
of his district and that taking a leadership position with the party on other
issues isn't always possible. I am glad that he is currently supporting
leaving it out, but watch out for the excuses to come. When I suggested that since
the Congressman has statewide political ambitions and we would be asking all
of our colleagues around the state to contact him, he said that he listened to
constituents from the First District. I think that the Club is doing a great
job of moving people!
