Iowans for Responsible Energy Policy (IREP), which is a coalition of
consumer, senior, labor, environmental and faith organizations dedicated to
developing a comprehensive energy policy for Iowa will hold a press
conference Monday, June 18.

The purpose of the press conference is to discuss concerns about HF 577 --
pending legislation that is likely to be debated during the special
legislative session next week. While there is bipartisan agreement on some
parts of the bill, there are *serious flaws with some sections*, especially
the section known as the "power purchase section".

The press conference will be held on the west steps of the State Capitol at
10 a.m.

Groups involved with the IREP coalition include Sierra Club, Iowa Citizens'
Action Network, AARP, Izaak Walton League, Iowa Environmental Council, Iowa
Assoc. of County Conservation Boards, United Methodists, League of Women
Voters, and various consumer groups and labor unions.

Please try to attend and bring others with you. If you have questions,
