There have been and even now are people that work for DNR, Shive-Hattery, and Pioneer Hybrid, subscribed to this listserve. There are people subscribed that don't live in Iowa. They may or may not be members. There are listserves that the Sierra Club sponsors that are restrictive in thier membership. You have to: be a member, be on a committee, have an interest, hold a certain position are all examples of ways to define who can subscribe to a certain listserve. Iowa-topics has no restrictions for being a subscriber.
As one of the listowners, I have appreciated the way everyone has been supportive of views being expressed with little restrictions. In return no one has taken advantage of the listserves openess.
If any of you are concerned about security, the Sierra Club leaders engaged in campaigns are mindful of which listserves serve which function and are used according to their function.
