Glenn, what a shock this bill has been. Luckily there are people who will defend our side of issues. See this exchange below:
I worked with David Sieck for 5 years on the Missouri River Recovery effort. David was obstinate and once the final report from Missouri River Recovery ImplementationCommittee he must have had extra time on his hands so tore into Iowa's business. Jim
The letter to papers will be very effective given the political climate. Thanks I hope to see you this coming spring. Our hosting of the University of Iowa students Spring term service was one of the highlights of my teaching career. Jim
Thank you, Ms Steckman, for your encouraging support for Iowa’s natural treasures. We live in the Loess Hills—a treasure that has been starved for funding and staffing over the past three decades. The National Park Service believes this unique ecosystem is worth sharing with Americans and Iowans. HF 542 would cripple the efforts to bring our citizens and children to a love of our land.

Dr. Redmond,
Thank you for your heartfelt email. HSB 542 was not on my radar until the emails started coming in last week.
I am a member of the Natural Resources Committee and will be watching to see if this bill makes it out
of subcommittee Monday at 10:30. If it does make it to the full Committee I will be a definite NO.

My goal for Iowa is to make it a welcoming place for all ages, with outdoor activities for everyone to enjoy. This means taking care of our public lands and adding to them when we can. We are already ranked 47th in public lands, this bill would only make that worse.

I appreciate your input,
Sharon Steckman

I live in Nebraska so can not send a letter.  I would ask why is this bill necessary. What problem is it solving? What benefits to the citizens of Iowa does it provide non that I can see.  What motivated the FBF to sponsor this bill?

Also can I suggest to write letters to major newspapers including Omaha World Herald they cover Iowa news.   [log in to unmask]
