We are proud to announce that Sierra is a finalist in five categories of
the Western Publication's Association's "Maggie" competition this year:


Best Black and White Layout, "Photography of Hope," featuring Sebastiao
Salgado's photographs of the Galapagos in our January/February 2006 issue.

Best Public Service Article, "Going for Broke," Marilyn Snell's May/June
2006 feature about Asarco using the bankruptcy loophole.

Best Series of Editorial Illustrations, "Two Time Losers," a
September/October 2006 story about "our lousiest lawmakers," which was
illustrated by Victor Juhasz.

Best Series of Editorial Photographs, "Photography of Hope," featuring
Sebastiao Salgado's photographs of the Galapagos in our January/February
2006 issue.

Best Magazine Covering Politics and Social Issues, for the entire
September/October  issue (the one with the fall leaf on the cover), which
included Bill Donahue's "Shanghai by Bike," Paul Rauber's "Two Time
Losers," Jennifer Hattam's "Fall Fashion," Seth Zuckerman's "My Low-Carbon
Diet," and Pat Joseph's interview with Al Gore.
