The Squaw Creek watershed encompasses Ames and areas to the NW.

The Squaw Creek Watershed Coalition is working with the Iowa DNR to certify
that monitoring data collected by local IOWATER volunteers can be used to
justify future water quality projects, attract funding and get more state
and federal help. DNR is going to set up automatic samplers, but we also
need to recruit more volunteers to increase the data collected. The more
good data we can get the more we can do to improve Squaw Creek. The data
collected may also be more useful for research projects on campus. This
would be a great activity for GreeningISU folks, conservationists, grad and
undergrad students, paddlers, etc.

Comments from Inger Lamb of Iowa Prairie Network: Prairies historically were
sponges that filtered and purified precipitation, long before it joined
surface waters..rarely the case on today's landscape. The Squaw Creek
Watershed Coalition is a good group of enthusiastic people working to
demonstrate the benefits that can result from proper watershed management,
including the use of native vegetation. This meeting will be educational -
and also offers an opportunity to meet representatives from this active
group.

Come to this meeting to learn more about IOWATER and How to volunteer!
