Iowa DNR NewsEnvironmental Services Division For immediate release Sept. 1, 2007 PUBLIC HEARING ON NUTRIENT MANAGEMENT PLAN FOR FEEDLOT IN DICKINSON COUNTY MEDIA CONTACT: Gene Tinker at (563) 927-2640 MILFORD - A public hearing on the nutrient management plan for the John J. Derner open feedlot will be held at the Milford Community Center at 7 p.m. on Sept. 5. The meeting will be held one block west of Highway 71 at 806 North Ave., Suite 4, and is open to the general public. The nutrient management plan is available for public review at the Spencer DNR field office located at 1900 North Grand, Suite 17E. The hearing was requested after Derner, president of Derners of Milford, Inc., submitted a nutrient management plan for a 4,000-head cattle feedlot to the DNR. The lot is located southeast of Milford. The DNR will accept public comments that are relevant to the nutrient management plan. Open feedlots in Iowa with 1,000 animal units or more are required by state law to submit the nutrient plans to the DNR. Members of the public may make comments on the plans or request a hearing. More information is available on the DNR Web site at www.iowadnr.gov/afo/mhandling_nmp.html. # # #
