Backyard Conservation Seminar
Saturday, February 27
Ankeny DMACC Campus
Featured speaker is Jim Pease
On February 27, a seminar will be held in Ankeny for everyone interested in
gardening, landscaping, wildlife, conservation and the environment. The
seminar is being held at the Ankeny DMACC campus in the Building 7
conference center.
This event runs from 9:30-2:30 with registration and exhibits beginning at
9:00 am. The cost is $25 per person, including lunch, or $45 per couple from
the same household. The student rate is $15.
Pre-registration is requested prior to February 22nd. After February 22nd an
additional fee of $5/person is required. Registration information can be

The seminar includes speakers and exhibitors in a variety of topics to
interest the home gardener and nature lover. Featured speaker is Jim Pease,
retired ISU professor and Extension Wildlife Specialist. He is a regular on
Iowa Public Radio's Talk of Iowa program and consultant on many wildlife and
interpretive projects across the state.
Other experts will discuss how to improve your yard, gardens, and
landscapes. A variety of topics include trees, pest invasions, caring for
your lawn, attracting backyard birds, the importance of pollination,
harvesting rainwater, and growing garden vegetables.
This event is sponsored by the Polk Soil and Water Conservation District
(SWCD) and Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) Department of Arts and
Sciences.
