I read this in the August minutes of the Natural Resources Commission -- I
don't remember deer hunting dates exactly, but it seems to me they might
start as early as October 1 and run through January 10. Was anyone else
aware of this new rule?

Some state parks will be closed during deer hunting.
During the dates of deer hunting only persons engaged in deer hunting shall
use the area or portions there of as designated by the DNR and signed as
such.

Viking Lake State Park Montgomery County
Pursuant to the authority of Iowa Code subsection 455A.5(6), the Natural
Resource Commission hereby adopts an amendment to Chapter 61, "State Parks
and Recreation Areas," and Chapter 62, "State Forest Camping", Iowa
Administrative Code.
