Polluting industries also lose
I couldn't agree more with Kendra Kimbirauskas' July 10 Iowa View, "That
Pungent Smell Behind EPA's Closed Doors," concerning the odor created when
big business and government conspire behind closed doors; especially when
the focus is how the huge livestock and poultry industry sidestep
regulations that protect our health and environment.
On the face of it she is right that polluting industries will benefit by
exemptions from clean air and water laws despite the costs to families. The
business benefit is in dollars only for the short term.
In truth, they also will lose, and their children, along with the folks
living downwind and downstream. We share the same planet.
Business plans that depend on compromising environmental laws lack vision
and creativity.
Jack Eastman,
Fairfield.
