If churches can take advantage of Mel Gibson's Passion to
bring folks to Jesus, environmentalists can use the new
movie "The Day After Tommorow" to help them get serious
about slowing global climate change. Here's an interesting
offer from Physicians For Social Responsibility, sent me by
the Iowa City PSR President Maureen McCue.

P.S. I believe that Jesus would love to see greenhouse
gases reduced and definitely would not drive an SUV.

Dear PSR Supporters,
I'm sure by now you've all heard of the release today of
"The Day After Tomorrow," to be shown 8 times per day at
the Coral 10. As Peter Schurman from Moveonsays, "This is
an unparalleledopportunity to help people do something to
prevent a climate crisis." I think we need to join the
folks from Moveon.org to hand out informationalflyers and
encourage viewers to sign letters and petitions outside the
theater. Please let me know if you are interested in
helping us make the most of thisopportunity. I'd like to
organize several people to help prepare and organizeletters
and petitions. At the very least please sign the letter
enclosedin this notice from the PSR EnviroHealth Action
group. Then, enjoy the movie! M.

                                                The
scenario is over the top. But the fact is, global warmingis
happening -- and it's happening today, not the day after
tomorrow. Since1980, we've seen 19 of the 20 hottest years
on record. In that time, 20 percentof the North Pole ice
cap has melted away. Scientists say this
unprecedentedwarming is caused by heat-trapping pollution
from burning fossil fuels.

The Statue of Liberty doesn't need a bikini quite yet. But
experts agreethat if we don't cut global warming pollution
soon, we face serious economic, health and environmental
risks, such as drought, flooding, heat waves andmore asthma
attacks, not to mention devastation for coral reefs, the
FloridaEverglades and other natural treasures.

The good news is we already have the tools we need to fix
the problem. TheClimate Stewardship Act is a bipartisan
bill that would cut global warmingpollution and help keep
our planet cool. The bad news is that we don't yethave
enough votes for the bill to pass.

Turn up the heat on Congress! Take action now, and we'll
send you a cool "thank-you"coupon for a free scoop of Ben &
Jerry's ice cream.*

Click here to get the real scoop, then get a free
scoop.Better do it now, the planet can't wait any longer.

And we're going to need a lot of cooler heads to persuade
Congress to act,so please share the scoop with your friends
(either forward this email orvisit the "Tell a friend" page
on the website).

*Limit one per customer. Available to U.S.residents only.
Coupon may be redeemed at participating Ben & Jerry'sScoop
