Dispatches from the Last Frontier:
Travels by Canoe in Alaska’s Western Arctic with Richard Kahn
Emmy-award winning filmmaker Richard Kahn has spent the last 12 summers
paddling through wilderness on rivers in the Brooks Mountain Range and
the Arctic Slope of northwestern Alaska. He has traveled extensively in
the area known as the National Petroleum Reserve-Alaska, covering several
thousand miles by canoe—camping on gravel bars by the side of the river,
carrying all his food and equipment—often for months at a time. Through
his travels, Kahn has developed a deep appreciation for this remote part
of Alaska. The pressure of oil and coal development in this unspoiled
wilderness has prompted him to speak in defense of this wild and
beautiful land.
This fall, Richard is traveling through New England and the Midwest to
share a multimedia presentation of his travels in the wild, undeveloped,
unprotected and threatened wilderness of the Reserve.
