GovernorBranstadhaslongbeenachampionofalternativeenergy,suchaswindandbiofuels.Infact,hewasthefirstgovernorinthecountrytosignaRenewableEnergyStandardin1983.ManystatessoonfollowedandsignedtheirownversionoftheRES.
 
AsGovernorBranstadrequiresofeachofhisagencies,hebelievestheEnvironmentalProtectionAgency(EPA)shouldconvenestakeholdersandreceivetheirinputbeforeadoptinganysignificantlongtermregulations.HeisencouragingEPAAdministratorGinaMcCarthytoworkwitheachstateindividually,givingIowapropertimetoadjustandimplementanynewrulesthatwouldaffectitscitizens.
