ABOUT THE ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY STRATEGY TEAM

The EQST is one of four Strategy Teams that report to the Club's
Conservation Governance Committee, which is directly responsible
to the Board of Directors for all of the Club's issues work. It
is a seven-member team of experienced volunteers with a history
of producing results on the issues under the EQST's jurisdiction.

Appointed by the Conservation Governance Committee, the EQST is
responsible for all of the Club's pollution-related issues work,
as well as wetlands issues covered under the federal Clean Water
Act. The EQST and its committees help to facilitate effective
action at all levels of the Club on the issues for which they
are responsible. They help to shape Club policies and positions,
recruit and apply necessary expertise, assist grassroots activists,
and focus Club resources where they can produce the best results.

To carry out its responsibilities, the EQST established SEVEN committees.

-- Air Committee
-- Community Health Committee
-- Corporate Accountability Committee
-- Environmental Justice Committee
-- Waste Committee
-- Water Committee
-- Workplace Environment Committee

In general, Strategy Team members are responsible for reviewing the work of
the EQST committees; setting their membership and budgets; assisting them
in developing priorities and strategies for addressing their issues;
educating, organizing and supporting the members on these issues;
coordinating the work of the committees and other work on related issues;
and creating additional committees as needed.

From the initial charge to the EQST, the committee has jurisdiction over
"pollution prevention, and water quality issues, toxics and hazardous
wastes, recycling, public health, OSHA, workplace safety and health,
nuclear waste, and military impacts."  "Strategy Team....leaders...should
have broad knowledge and familiarity with many if not all, of the issues
for which that strategy team is responsible, have campaign experience,
have good political judgement and some demonstrated management and people
skills" according to the general qualifications for strategy team members
prepared in 1997.

Applicants should include the following with their application:
