Press Conference on Energy Policy

WHO:    Iowans for Responsible Energy Policy, which is a coalition
on consumer, senior, labor, envirnomental and faith organizations dedicated
to developing a comprehensive energy policy for Iowa.

WHAT:   Press conference detailing the problems with HF 577 and
proposing an acceptable compromise.

WHERE:  Witwer Senior Center located at the corner of 2nd Ave and 3rd St in
downtown Cedar Rapids (305 2nd Ave, SE, Cedar Rapids 319-398-3636).

WHEN:   10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 13, 2001

WHY:    HF 577 is pending legislation that's likely to be debated
during the special legislative session June 19 and 20.  While there is
bipartisan agreement on some parts of the bill, there are serious flaws with
the power purchase section.  We're glad that the legislature did not act
hastily on HF 577 during the regular session.  Should HF 577 be raised, the
provisions regarding power purchase agreements must be taken out of the
bill.
