WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17
Central Iowa Sierra Group
Grace United Methodist Church
37th and Cottage Grove in Des Moines
7:30 p.m.

Dick Worm from Bellevue will present a program about service trips and
wilderness trips that he has taken, mostly through Sierra Club. He has led
26 backpack/hiking/camping trips for youth from 1973 - 1999 throughout the
United States. Dick is active in the White Pine Sierra Group and a past
chair of the Iowa Chapter. For information about this program, contact Jane
at 515-223-5047.

AND, at 6 p.m..............................................
Join us for the Species-a-thon compilation and get-together at 6 p.m.
Wednesday night, also being held at the church. There will be snacks and
beverages. Bring a snack to share if you'd like.

The Species-a-thon fundraiser took the place of our auction this year. The
first goal of this event is to have fun and interact with other members. A
second goal is to learn more about our natural environment. And a third
goal is to raise funds to help support the Central Iowa Group's activities
and projects such as:

*Water quality monitoring equipment and training
*Earth Day celebration and educational activities
*Work on invasive species removal and education
 *Iowa Sierra Wetlands Poster
*Polk County Conservation Board's "Save the Pieces Campaign"
 *Educational programs on environmental issues
 *Newsletter
