I checked tonight's Des Moines City Council agenda and found this item is
#48 on the agenda -- with items # 3-42 on the consent agenda (they'll all be
approved at the same time unless one of the council reps request an item be
separated from the rest). The meeting begins at 4:30 so it won't be too far
into it when this issue is discussed.
I also found the Communication the council received about the subject.
"They are interested in the entire 166-acre parcel located south of Vandalia
Road and west of SE 43rd Street in the Des Moines Agrimergent Technology
Park." The proposed plant would have a capacity to produce 100 million
gallons of ethanol per year.
I thought you might also be interested in this quote:
"The company’s ethanol production facility will be state-of-the-art with no
environmental drawbacks. Air emissions will be well within State-mandated
levels. Only non-contact water will be discharged. "

Subject: Ethanol plant in Des Moines?
Date: Fri, 21 Apr 2006 14:18:47 -0500
In today's Des Moines Register, there is an article about a group of
investors who are scheduled to appear Monday before the DM City Council to
discuss buying city-owned land for building a 100-million-gallon-a-year
ethanol plant.
The investors are officials of Lincolnway Energy Co., which is also building
a plant near Nevada, Iowa, that will make 50 million gallons of ethanol per
year.
Their plant near Nevada will be coal-fired.
The site in Des Moines has not been disclosed.
I think Des Moines City Council meetings begin at 4:30 p.m. at City Hall.
