STUDENTS FROM ACROSS THE NATION GATHER ON CAPITOL HILL
TO RALLY FOR PUBLIC LANDS PROTECTION
150 students join Sierra Club President at News Conference
as part of Public Lands Action Summit
Washington, D.C.: On Monday afternoon, more than 150 students from across
the nation will join Sierra Club President Jennifer Ferenstein at a news
conference and press rally at the House Triangle. The students, members of
the Sierra Student Coaltion (SSC), the student-run arm of the Sierra Club,
will be in Washington March 1 -5 for the Fourth Annual Public Lands Action
Summit. The students are in DC to lobby on protection of the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge, Utah Wilderness, and National Forests.

WHO: Jennifer Ferenstein, President, Sierra Club and 150 students
WHEN: 1 p.m.
Monday, March 4
WHERE: House Triangle
Ms. Ferenstein will speak to the students about the upcoming debate in the
Senate on energy legislation. Students will spend the weekend learning more
about key public lands issues as well as lobbying and campaign skills. They
will apply these skills in visits to their elected officials in an effort
to gain congressional co-sponsors for the following bills: the Morris K.
Udall Wilderness Act, America's Redrock Wilderness Act and National Forest
Protection and Restoration Act. Energy legislation and the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge will also be focal points.
As the student-run arm of the Sierra Club, with 24,000 members, 200
high-school and college environmental groups, and more than 40 student
leaders,
the Sierra Student Coalition helps young people take effective action
for the planet.
