Jack Drake has let the proposed bottle bill expansion bills die in
subcommittee. HF2318 includes appropriation language and we will try to
get
it resurrected somehow in the appropriations committee -- any of you have
ideas on this please share with me. We are not slowing down. Purple
bottle
bill fact sheets will be distributed at the Statehouse on March 1 (thanks
Carlos and Judie). We are also hoping that sometime in March we will
present
all the new petition signatures to the Governor and hopefully get them
presented in both houses -- (thanks to the IKES and Roy for all the great
work). The 4Rs newsletter that goes to all 37,000 teachers in March will
include a letter from Rep. Mary Mascher about the bottle bill and how
students can use the issue as a great learning tool. Please continue to
educate legislators especially Jack Drake, Chuck Gipp, Rants, Siegrist,
etc.
By the end of the session I want to make sure that there is not a single
legislator who thinks we have gone away -- we want them to not even be
thinking about repeal going into the election and next session -- next
year
will be the year of expansion only! I am planning a redemption center
meeting in July to begin a new push -- at that point we will start a new
petition targeted at expansion with the goal of 35,000 signatures by the
time
session begins. The redemption centers have been great and are fired up
about possible change. We will also develop a new fact sheet to begin
distribution this summer which will be better looking and much more
informative. Thanks again for your efforts and please do not forget to
mention expansion when you talk to legislators -- please keep the issue
alive!!
