VOLUNTEER LEADERSHIP OPPORTUNITY
Midwest Regional Conservation Committee: Off Coal Campaign Subcommittee
Chair:
The MRCC is in need of an organizer to lead and coordinate the MRCC's
"Off
Coal Campaign" Subcommittee and volunteers. The major goal of this
campaign
is to eliminate the harmful environmental and health effects from
coal-fired
power generation by eliminating the source of these problems.
With the MRCC's recent conference in Toronto, Canada (their second on
developing this campaign); a near-fully-developed regional and
bi-national
campaign plan exists. The success of this workshop helped
generate a core group committed to steering committee participation and
even
more on plan implementation. In addition, over 70 volunteers in the
region
have expressed varying levels of interest in working on this issue.
Desired Skills:
- Excellent organizational and people skills. (Past experience in
chairing a
plus, but not required.)
- Understanding of budget, Sierra Club planning process, (grant-writing
skills a plus; last year's total MRCC budget ~$20,000).
- A knowledge or desire to learn about coal-fired power plant pollution
and
its effects.
Training from the MRCC chair is available.
Location: Anywhere in the Midwest region or Ontario.
Time commitment: This position requires approximately 10 hours per
month.
Additional time required during planning of semi-annual meetings (2) or
other potential
events. In order to assist, the Midwest Regional Office has committed
staff
support.
Inquiries: For further information please contact Barb Frank, MRCC
