"Support Family Farms" rally
Tuesday, January 9th -- 11 a.m.
State Capitol Building
1st floor rotunda

Des Moines, Ia. -- People across the state who are fighting factory farms
and corporate concentration in agriculture will gather at the State Capitol
in Des Moines on Tuesday, January 9th for a "Support Family Farms" rally and
lobby day. The rally will start at 11 a.m. in the first floor rotunda of
the Capitol building.

Representatives from various family farm, labor and church groups will be at
the event, which will coincide with Governor Vilsack's state of the state
address and the opening of the 2001 state legislative session.

During the day, the group will meet with key state legislators to push for
policies that promote family farms, protect the environment and public
health, and sustain rural communities. They will also meet with the state
director of the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and representatives
from the Iowa Attorney General's office to discuss Iowa CCI's state-wide
rule-making petition to stop factory farm air pollution and the proposed
IBP/Tyson merger.

"We want action now on these critical issues -- we're not going to let
factory farms and corporate mega-mergers run family farmers out of business
and destroy our communities," said Frank Jones, a Davis County farmer and
president of Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement. "By working together,
we can get things done and stop the corporate takeover of agriculture,"
Jones added.

For more information, call Iowa CCI at 515/282-0484.
